Dr. H. Jean works for the Philadelphia Behavioral Health System. His professional background is primarily in the areas of chemical dependency, forensic psychology, clinical psychology and dual diagnosis for child, adolescent, and adult populations. He has honed his professional skills in a variety of arenas, including: private practice, academia, research, rehabilitation and corrections, and management. Dr. H. Jean’s greatest commitment and satisfaction has come in working with “at risk” youth and individual’s labeled as “resistant.” Dr. H. Jean’s expertise in working with young men of color is evidenced in his published articles: Cultural Competence: The Key to Working With African-American Adolescent Males (1999); Cognates of Personal Control: The Relevance to the Study of African-American Adolescent Males (1996); and African-American Adolescents at Risk: Why? And What Can They Do About It? (1995). In addition, Dr. H. Jean has established a modest reputation as a “must hear” poet and presenter. Currently, Dr. H. Jean divides his time between his responsibilities for the city of Philadelphia, and as a guest lecturer for higher learning institutions, government agencies, community and church groups, and his writing projects.
